Second class accommodation for women in the Second Class-cum-Luggage-cum Guard’s Coach (SLR) is already earmarked in most of the long distance trains. In addition, the following accommodation is also provided for women in long distance trains.
• A reservation quota of six berths in sleeper class in Mail/Express trains.
• A combined quota of two lower berths per coach in Sleeper, Air-conditioned 3 tier (3 AC) and Air-conditioned 2 tier (2 AC) classes for Senior citizens, female passengers 45 years of age and above and pregnant women, when traveling alone.
This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways, Shri E. Ahamed in a written reply in Raj ya Sabha today.
