Indian Railways has a website for Online booking of your ticket reservation in www.irctc.co.in (Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Limited). They also had a service of booking your reservation ticket through your GPRS and CDMA mobile phone using Speech Recognition.
Now, they have taken one more step for Indian Railways, you can reserve your railway ticket through two SMS messages (Short Messaging Service).
At present, this service is limited to the following mobile operators of India:
1. IDEA Cellular – Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Delhi, and NCR
2. MTNL (Delhi) – Delhi, and NCR
3. Reliance Infocomm – All circles
Other Mobile Operator such as BSNL, Hutch, MTNL (Mumbai), and Tata Indicom are in queue of integrating SMS booking services with Indian Railway.
How you can Reserve your Tickets using SMS
For getting benefits of SMS Booking services of Railway Reservation, you have to fulfill some requirements:
1. You must have registered with www.irctc.co.in, and you have to choose mobile operator for booking tickets through SMS.
2. You must have to create one “Passenger List” in your registered profile of www.irctc.co.in. The only person from this list can have a benefit of SMS Reservation services.
3. You must have registered for the Mobile Banking services of ICICI Bank (Other banks are in queue of integration).
4. You must have mobile connection with your name, from anyone of the mobile operators given in the above list.
If this four requirements are fulfilled, then the whole procedure of the Reservation of Railways Ticket is easily possible through two SMS messages. You just have to message on IRCTC’s short code 7245 for reserving your tickets.
How to Register you account in IRCTC?
It is easier method; you just have to sign-up in www.irctc.co.in. Choose Mobile Booking option in the profile/registration page. Then choose your Mobile Booking facilities, which include SMS booking. You have to enter your mobile number, your mobile operator, and payment option (presently it is only for ICICI Bank users).
The ICICI bank will charge you Rs. 10 for this service. You have to registered in your bank for “Mobile Shopping Service” and type the “mShop Name” through SMS.
