GATEMAN HONOUREDIN SOUTH CENTRAL RAILWAY

Shri K. Madhu, a newly recruited Gateman was honoured by Shri M. S. Jayanth, General Manager, South Central Railway for exhibiting his presence of mind and alertness to avert a major rail disaster near Secundrabad yesterday i.e. on 15th July, 2010.

The incident occurred when the Gateman Shri K. Madhu, was manning the Traffic Level Crossing Gate No.44 near Raghunathapalli Railway Station (Secunderabad side) on Secunderabad-Kazipet Section at around 9 a.m. yesterday. On noticing a sizeable 44 inches Rail fracture on the Railway track (down line), the alert Gateman understood the consequences and rushed to the Station Manager, Raghunathapalli Railway Station to inform him of the same. Immediately thereafter, the Gateman noticed the fast approaching Train No.2706 Secunderabad-Guntur Intercity Express, which was supposed to pass through the fractured Rail track and rushed in its direction, waving the danger red flag and brought the train to a halt at a safe distance, thereby ensuring that a major rail disaster is averted.

In recognition of the fact that the Gateman Shri K. Madhu who just finished 21 days of service in Railways and for exhibiting his well trained skills and commitment, the General Manager presented an award of Rs.5000/- to the employee. Shri Jayanth also appreciated the fact that the Gateman was employed on South Central Railway on compassionate grounds as his father who worked as a Gangman had expired.
