One Commando training centre for the Railway Protection Force is being set up at Canning (Eastern Railway), West Bengal at an estimated cost of Rs. 26.70 crore.

The above training centre is being set up to impart specialized commando training to the Railway Protection Force/Railway Protection Special Force personnel keeping in view requirements for better protection and security of railway property, passenger are and passengers. It will function as in-house commando training centre of the RPF and end dependence of the RPF or other Forces for getting slot for commando training. 

Work has been approved in 2010-11. Instructions have been issued for developing required infrastructure on priority. 

This information was given by the Minister of State for Railways, Shri K.H. Muniyappa in a written reply in Lok Sabha today.
